More Space, Less Upkeep

The homeowners wanted a larger outdoor living area for entertaining and relaxing. More than that, they wanted to avoid the seasonal maintenance that comes with traditional materials. They envisioned a space that would mature gracefully, year after year, without demanding constant attention.

Prime Home Improvement built exactly that: a custom composite deck paired with a ground-level patio, creating one cohesive outdoor living destination designed for both gathering and durability.

The Deck: Contrast and Purpose

Trex Toasted Sand decking forms the main surface, bordered by a contrasting Cinnamon Cove picture-frame edge. This arrangement gives the deck a defined perimeter and a visual anchor visible from every angle, grounding the structure within the landscape without fragmenting the space.

Against those warm tones sits a custom two-tone railing: white composite posts with black balusters create striking visual interest while maintaining clear sightlines across the yard. The T-rail profile carries this design around the perimeter. Two Trex Signature gates provide flexible access at the deck openings, framing a generous gathering area without dividing it.

A Destination at Ground Level

Beside the elevated deck, a custom gray patio adds gathering space where the action naturally extends. Its circular seating area becomes a focal point farther from the house. Different heights, different materials, different purposes; the two surfaces work together as one connected outdoor space.

Evening Entertaining Built-In

Low-voltage riser and wedge lighting weave through the stairs and deck surface, extending the day without requiring overhead fixtures from the house. After sunset, the riser lights define each step, and the wedge lights guide movement across the deck. Evening entertaining isn’t an afterthought; it’s part of the design.

Materials & Design Decisions

  • Decking: Trex Toasted Sand with Cinnamon Cove picture-frame border and fascia creates visual depth and defined edges.
  • Railing: White Select composite posts with black balusters deliver a custom two-tone appearance; T-rail profile and Trex Signature gates provide safety and flexible access.
  • Lighting: Integrated low-voltage fixtures extend evening use without overhead house lighting.
  • Patio: The gray composite surface grounds the yard space and contrasts with the elevated deck.

One Backyard, Three Distinct Zones

Warm, Toasted-Sand decking, a striking two-tone railing, and a custom patio create three distinct gathering areas within one cohesive outdoor space. The elevated deck anchors near the house for entertaining. The patio extends gathering space to ground level. The lighting extends the day.

The $65,000 investment delivers:

  • Room to entertain near the house on the elevated deck
  • A separate gathering area in the yard at patio level
  • Evening use through integrated lighting
  • Durable, low-maintenance surfaces that require no annual upkeep

The Transformation

No annual staining. No seasonal maintenance. Just more time outdoors, year after year, with the people who matter. That’s what this space delivers.
