Deck Builder in Covington, KY

Covington is dense historic housing, much of it nineteenth century, on small lots that climb away from the Licking and the Ohio.

Age, tight sites and steep ground are the three things that shape a deck here, and Kentucky permitting is its own process rather than an extension of the Ohio one.

Building a deck in Covington

Old masonry and small yards

Attaching to a nineteenth century brick wall is a masonry detail, not a timber one, and on many of these houses a freestanding deck on its own posts is the better engineering answer. Yards are small enough that the deck usually is the garden, so built-in seating tends to beat furniture.

Kentucky is a separate jurisdiction

A Northern Kentucky address does not run through the Ohio process, and the requirements and the office both differ. We work both sides of the river and handle whichever applies to your address.

Questions from Covington homeowners

Do you work in Northern Kentucky?

Yes, across Kenton, Campbell and Boone Counties. The permitting is a separate process from Ohio and we handle it either side of the river.

Can a deck attach to a nineteenth century brick house?

Sometimes, with the right masonry fixings and flashing. On plenty of these houses we would recommend freestanding instead, which avoids putting load and water into an old wall.
