Choosing between the Trex lines
Enhance is the entry line and covers the common greys and browns. Select sits in the middle. Transcend is the top line, with the deepest colour movement and the most convincing woodgrain, and it is the one people usually pick when the deck is the main view from the back of the house.
We bring samples to the estimate and look at them in your own light. Composite colour reads very differently on a shaded north facing deck than it does in a sunlit yard, and a chip seen indoors is a poor guide to either.
What the cap actually does
The polymer shell is why capped composite does not need staining or sealing, and why spilled food and planter rings wash off rather than soak in. It is also why the boards should never be cleaned with a pressure washer held close: the cap is tough, not indestructible, and gouging it removes the part doing the work.
Trex publishes limited warranties on its boards covering fade and stain as well as the structure of the plank itself. The exact term depends on the line, and the paperwork comes with your materials.
Railing and trim that matches
Trex makes matching railing, fascia and riser boards, so stair risers and the outer face of the frame can be finished in the same colour family as the deck instead of leaving treated lumber on show. Plenty of our customers pair Trex boards with black aluminum railing instead, which keeps the sightlines open and is usually the cheaper of the two.
