Deck Builder in Lebanon, OH

Lebanon splits into two very different jobs: the older streets near the centre, where houses date back well over a century, and the newer development around the edges.

A deck on a 19th century frame house is a different piece of work from a deck on a 2005 build, mostly in how it attaches and what it should look like.

Building a deck in Lebanon

Older houses need the ledger looked at properly

On a period house the rim joist you would normally bolt a ledger to may be balloon framed, undersized or already carrying water damage behind the siding. Sometimes the right answer is a freestanding deck with its own posts, which avoids attaching to the house at all. We open it up and look before quoting a fixing method.

Matching an older elevation

Wide modern boards and chunky rails can look wrong against a historic facade. Narrower boards, a simple square baluster and a restrained colour usually sit better, and the detail that matters most is keeping the deck height from cutting across a window line.

Questions from Lebanon homeowners

Can you attach a deck to an older Lebanon home?

Often, but not always, and it is not something to assume. If the rim is not sound, a freestanding structure on its own posts is the safer build and avoids putting load and water where the house cannot take it.

Will a composite deck look out of place on a period house?

It does not have to. Board width, railing profile and colour do most of the work, and there are composite lines that read far closer to painted wood than the wide grey boards people picture.
